Gujarat Shops & Establishments Act Amendment 2025 – Key Highlights

The Government of Gujarat has issued an Ordinance to amend the Gujarat Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2019, with immediate effect.

Under this amendment, the applicability threshold has been increased from 10 to 20 employees, allowing more small establishments to remain outside the Act’s coverage. The daily working hours have been revised to 10 hours, and the quarterly overtime limit has been increased to 144 hours.

Women employees are now permitted to work night shifts between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, subject to their consent and mandatory safety, security, rest room, and transportation arrangements provided by the employer.

These changes aim to improve ease of doing business, promote gender equality at the workplace, and enhance employment opportunities in Gujarat
