The Government of India has officially implemented the Code on Social Security, 2020, effective from 21st November 2025, bringing important changes to social welfare benefits. Under the revised definition, widower and grandparents are now recognised as dependants, while father-in-law and mother-in-law of a woman employee are now included under the definition of family for medical benefits.
This helps extend security and support to more members connected with an employee, ensuring wider coverage and care. Enclosed is the ESIC circular regarding same.
