The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued an important clarification regarding the treatment of gaps in service for EDLI (Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance) claims.

As per the clarification, gaps caused solely due to weekends, closed days, or declared holidays between exit from one establishment and joining another shall NOT be treated as a break in service. Such periods will be considered as continuous service for the purpose of EDLI benefits.

This clarification ensures that eligible dependents are not denied EDLI benefits due to minor and unavoidable gaps and will bring uniformity in claim settlement across all regions. All Regional PF Offices have been directed to strictly follow this while processing EDLI claims.
