The Delhi Government has introduced the Delhi Shops & Establishments (Amendment) Act, 2026 to update important labour rules for shops and commercial establishments. The amendment mainly focuses on employee working hours, eligibility, and safety provisions.

Under the new amendment, the Act will apply only to establishments employing 20 or more employees. The daily working hours have been increased to 10 hours including rest and lunch break, while weekly working hours can go up to 60 hours with certain limits on overtime.

Another important change is related to women employees, who can now work in night shifts with their written consent, provided the employer ensures proper security, CCTV surveillance, and transport facilities.

These amendments aim to provide better flexibility for businesses while ensuring employee safety and compliance.
