The Government of Puducherry has introduced a major relief for businesses by simplifying registration requirements. As per the latest notification, establishments registered under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 will no longer need separate registration under the Puducherry Shops and Establishments Act, 1964.

This move aims to reduce compliance burden and promote ease of doing business.

However, employers must still follow all rules related to safety, working conditions, working hours, and maintenance of records under the OSH Code. The exemption does not affect any past actions taken under the earlier Act and will be effective from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
